Add an image stored in Openinary on top of another image or a video. Overlays are part of the URL like every other parameter.
The overlay must be a file in your own storage. Openinary never fetches an overlay from a remote URL.

Parameters

Recipes

A logo in the bottom-right corner
A repeated watermark on a video
Tiled video overlays are limited to 400 tiles, so pick a tile size and spacing that fit the video. A watermarked video thumbnail
t_1 asks for a thumbnail, which is extracted right away instead of queued, and tt_3 picks the frame at 3 seconds.

Good to know

  • Videos with an overlay (other than t_1 thumbnails) are processed in the background like any other video transformation: the first request answers 202 until the job is done.
  • A pending watermarked video is never served without its watermark.
  • An invalid combination, such as lx_ without ly_, or an l_ file that does not exist, answers 400 with the reason.
  • Transformed results are cached by URL. If you replace the overlay file under the same name, invalidate the cache of the assets that use it, or use a new file name.
